About · the backstory

Marc didn't approve this. Yet.

It's 1am. We're refreshing indiepa.ge for the ninth time tonight. Marc Lou: $312k/month, 36 startups, Bali. Us: $0, a rented desk, and a scented candle we bought to feel more like founders.

We'd done everything the newsletter said. Read the book. Bought ShipFast. Copied his pricing page. Then copied it again in a different accent color because surely that was the missing ingredient. Still $0. At some point — somewhere around the fourth coffee and the fortieth tab of his X profile — we had the actual idea: we were never going to become Marc. But we could sell him.

Not him him. The voice. The one that shows up at 1am and says stop building, go sell it, and sounds suspiciously like a guy in Bali who has never met you or your idea. So we productized the voice — his documented public patterns, ship fast, charge money, kill what doesn't print, distribution over polish — into something you can actually run your own crisis through.

We bought the domain at 2am, which is the same decision-making window that produced most of Marc's 36 startups, so we're calling that a good omen and not a red flag. Legal reviewed this joke. Legal is also us. Legal had notes but we overruled Legal.

This is not a chatbot pretending to be him. He hasn't endorsed this. If he ever wants the keys, he can have them. Until then: unfortunately, not actually Marc — but weirdly useful anyway.

How it works

  1. 01

    Tell it the crisis

An idea, a stuck launch, a pricing question, a startup you're afraid to kill.

  2. 02

    It runs the playbook

Your numbers get checked against Marc's documented moves, not vibes.

  3. 03

    You get a verdict + a deadline

A reason, an action, an experiment with a success/fail line, and a date.

The rules we hold ourselves to

No fabricated quotes

Everything attributed to Marc is sourced from something he actually published — a site, a newsletter, a launch writeup. Evidence panels link to the source.

Public record only

We don't pretend to know his DMs or his Slack. If it isn't documented somewhere public, it isn't in the Brain.

Confidence, not certainty

Every verdict ships with a confidence score and counterexamples. This is pattern-matching against a real playbook, not a prophecy.

Nothing here is private

Every decision, roast, and receipt lands on the Wall. If you wouldn't want it public, don't ask.

PS — if Marc is somehow reading this

Hey Marc. Sorry, and you're welcome. Sorry for borrowing your brain without asking. You're welcome because your DMs are probably a warzone of people asking “is this a good idea”, and now some of them can ask a version of you that doesn't need sleep, isn't training for a Hyrox, and won't sell them ad space on its forearm. If you want a cut, a shoutout, or just want to say hi: the button's below. We already told Legal — also us — that you'd probably find this kind of funny. Legal is not confident.
